The Halo seating system comes from the idea of mixing and matching different backrest elements to create a variety of seating configurations, ranging from a single seat easychair, a public seating system, and a three-seat sofa that works well in different environments.
The main feature is a very large backrest that can provide additional comfort, but also increases privacy and improves acoustics without the need to close oneself in. The system is called ‘Halo’ because the backrest/headrest is reminiscent of a saint’s halo.
The starting point was to design a series of objects for public spaces. We saw a growing trend of furniture that would give the user more privacy but they tend to isolate the person from the surrounding environment. We tried to think of a half way point that would allow the user to have more privacy but still be able to interact with their surrounding.
